Guest Speakers at Trosky Academy

This week's speaker once ran data analytics and ops at Texas A&M. He's now a 4-year college and summer coach. Jordan's experience paints a success map for our students. One of many role-models who provide depth + scope education. At Trosky Academy, Depth is productive decision-making guidance. Scope comes from a variety of voices sharing real-world experiences. For comparison, the combo is a simplistic view of the Jesuit model.

As a result, students compete and win with character. Life choices are the fuel. Guest speakers like Jordan offer a terrain map for the adventure

Prepare for the "road less traveled" at Trosky Academy.

Tip of the Week

"Fighting for 10ths of Seconds, Simplicity is King"

Trosky Baseball Insider Training Tip of the Week: The Power of Simplicity in Defense

In the game of baseball, milliseconds matter. As defenders, we fight for tenths of seconds on every play, where a slight delay can mean the difference between making an out or giving the runner another 90 feet. This week’s tip from Coach Trosky focuses on – mastering efficiency and simplicity in defensive movement.

The Move: One-Handed Fielding

When approaching the ball, strive for a one-handed pick with purpose:

Come get it one-handed.

Shuffle your feet

Make the throw

Repetition is key. Just as hitters aim to repeat their best swing, infielders must work toward repeating their most efficient movement patterns. Consistency breeds reliability. Avoid the temptation to overcomplicate – efficiency wins.

Fight for Tenths of Seconds

Coach Trosky reminds us:

“You’re fighting for tenths of seconds. If you’re late on a hop by even a fraction, the ball can move a foot or more, making the play exponentially harder.”

Eliminate wasted motions like unnecessary kickouts or exaggerated setups. Simplicity and forward momentum are your allies:

Place your glove left of center.

Gain ground forward.

Minimize hip rotation unless it occurs naturally.

Beware of Misinformation

In today’s world of social media and trending techniques, stay grounded in foundational principles. Remember: not all advice is truth. Avoid unnecessary stylistic moves being popularized online, such as exaggerated kickouts or inefficient paths to the ball. Master the fundamentals first! They are the bedrock of elite performance.

Final Note

Defense, like hitting, requires disciplined repetition. Focus on eliminating wasted movement and optimizing your positioning. Every play, every rep, brings you closer to becoming an elite infielder. Now get out there and train with purpose. Simplicity, efficiency, and consistency – that’s the Trosky way.
